Prior to commencing installation works, our installer will meet with you to discuss any site-specific requirements. These may include some of the following:

Once the pillar layout has been determined and accurately measured, the preparation of the pillar foundations will commence. This will involve digging of footing holes and trenches, either by manual digging or excavator depending on site access. If a council building permit has been obtained for the pillars, a site inspection by the local council may be required at this stage.

Prior to pouring the concrete, if plinth wall and capping is to be installed, reinforcing steel mesh will be laid in the trenches. Concrete will then be poured into the foundation holes and trenches and steel reinforcing starter bar will be inserted into the wet foundation concrete for each pillar.

As our pillars are made in modular form for ease of transport and handling, the installation of the pillars involves assembling the modules starting with the base, then the shaft and stringcourse. At this point, the pillars will be filled with a fine grade concrete mix and a steel reinforcing bar inserted into the centre of the pillars for added strength. For gate pillars, two steel reinforcing bars are inserted to allow for the weight of swinging gates to be attached to the pillars. Once filled, the pillar capital or top is glued in place with construction adhesive.

To achieve a seamless look of the installed pillars, the joints between each of the pillar modules is mortared or “flushed” with a cement mortar mix, which matches the natural colour of the pillars.
